Platonic Sex

While any reputable queer advice column will tell you that there is, in fact, such a thing as too much processing, Platonic Sex are yet to approach their limit. At the intersection of rock aesthetics and folk storytelling, the band's guitar-driven melodies cocoon lyrics that explore the duality of toughness and intimacy.

Rinsing memories until the water runs clear, mining relationships for strands of truth, they hold space for audiences wading through their own twenty-something (and beyond) joys and tragedies.

Platonic Sex catapulted into 2022 with the release of their debut EP Grip, which saw them named as triple j Unearthed Feature Artist and win the Carol Lloyd Award at the 2023 Queensland Music Awards. With ‘Bitch in the Heat’, the lead single from their upcoming EP, Platonic Sex continue to amass praise across triple j, Pilerats, The Music, Music Feeds, Live Wire, The AU Review and Ramona Magazine, with a charge of community radio support, plus adds to tastemaking playlists including Spotify’s Fresh Finds AU & NZ, Apple Music’s New Music Daily, The New Rock, Today's Indie Rock and Indie Pop and Amazon Music’s New Music Daily.

Their captivating live show, which has earned them support slots alongside Angel Olsen, Jen Cloher, The Beths, WAAX and Body Type, were rounded out with a string of packed-out performances at BIGSOUND, including a slot on Amazon Music After Hours’ PRIDE Party earlier this month – their second consecutive year showcasing at the Southern Hemisphere’s biggest music industry showcase.
